The Maverlous Mae Jemison

Mae Jemison was born on October 17, 1956. She was born to a family of five, with three children, including herself. She began to become intrigued by science when she moved to Chicago at the age of three. Throughout her childhood, she studied archeology, astronomy, anthropology. At age 16, she got into the college, Stanford University, and graduated with degrees in Afro-American Studies and Chemical Engineering. In 1981, she received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University, and a few years later, something made an impact on her life. When NASA selected her for astronaut training, she was a practitioner in Los Angeles, along with 14 others.
In September 1992, she took her first space shuttle ride. Something else was a first – she was the first African American in space. She climbed aboard the Shuttle Endeavor. This is special because the world has been segregated for many, many years. She defied the odds and did it. It was a successful flight, which was great news for the world. In 1993, Dr. Jemison resigned from NASA and founded the Jemison Group, Inc. Among her current projects are several that focus on improving healthcare in Africa and advancing technology in developing countries.
In 1993, Mae made it into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. In 2004, she was honored and placed in the International Space Hall of Fame. She’s won a ton of awards and honors, not to mention doctorates. She has doctorates in ::

Mae Jemison was and still is an amazing person today. She made a difference in the world, and if she could, so could we.
